The possibilities are unlimited when we talk about jazz. This includes the guitar choice. Firstable, the musician must seek out the more comfortable guitar for him, something that includes find out the best sound as been possible. Wes Montgomery (1923-1968). An indisputable genius of the jazz guitar, Wes always played big hollow body guitars like Gibson L-5 or ES-175. This guitars were among the first guitars which were electrified in the 20´s. As regards string, Wes used to utilize 0.14 gauge.


Jim Hall (1930-now). As Wes Montgomery, Hall use to utilize hollow body guitars. At the outset, he played a classic one Gibson ES-175, but now he´s often found on the stage with an elegant and smart Sadowsky of similar characteristics. In strings, he utilize a light 0.11 gauge.  

Pat Metheny (1954-now). Metheny´s guitars are hollow body guitars but, particularly, yellow colored. At the outset, he played usually with ES- 175 guitars, but a advertising contract with Ibanez made that now he only plays with that Japanese company models, also hollow bodied. He use 0.11 gauge strings.

John Scofield (1951-now). Unlike the previous guitarists, Scofield´s guitars are semi hollowed body guitars, Gibson ES.335 styled. That was in fact the guitar which Scofield plays during two decades, until he signed an advertising contract with Ibanez, like Metheny did. Now he plays Ibanez AS 200 signature models.

George Benson (1943-now). During his long and successful career, Benson has played a great number of instruments, all hollowed body made, at Montgomery´s style, prioritizing  Gibson L-5´s type, hollow body Guild guitars and, recently, Ibanez guitars with his sign a an expensive price.

Bireli Lagrene (1966-actualidad). Lagrene is the typical musician who likes experience. Along his career, have been seen with a lot of guitar models, from acoustic guitars made for gypsy jazz to hollow body or solid body models. That fact is, like his music, an example of his art spirit.


Pat Martino (1944-actualidad). Martino´s guitars are singular guitars, cool and stylish handmade instruments like himself. They are semi hollowed body made, somewhere in between a Les Paul and a E-175 guitar, constructed by Benedetto. The guitars are sold in different colors.
